Poison Island

REPORT

Many eyes are still on Puerto Rico these days. In 2017 Hurricane Maria left the island of 3.5 million people without basic services. Getting less attention is tiny Vieques, an island that’s part of Puerto Rico, and home to just 9,000 people.

Vieques too has been decimated. Due to decades of bombing practice by U.S. and its allies. Residents say heavy metals and other contaminants are slowly sickening them.
